Motherhood, Riding Nerves & Barn Life Unfiltered
It was great fun to sit down with Alexis again after a brief time apart and catch up on all things life and horses. Like any good barn conversation, we jumped around a lot, from hair and gadgets (been loving my new Garmin) to sleepless nights and motherhood.
One of the biggest things Alexis opened up about was how tough it’s been to balance riding since becoming a mom. She recently had the chance to ride a friend’s horse, and while it was an amazing experience, the horse was incredibly well-trained and responsive, she admitted she was nervous. When it’s not your own horse, there’s that pressure of not wanting to mess anything up. Still, it was a great reminder of why she loves being in the saddle.
We also talked about the bond between children and animals, especially horses, and how naturally kids seem to connect with them. It made for a thoughtful moment about the role horses play not just in our lives as riders, but in our families too.
On the lighter side, we joked about barn drama (because let’s be honest, it never really goes away), and I shared my own story about “trailer anxiety” after buying a brand-new, fancy horse trailer. There may have also been a horse-shaped pipe cleaner involved that turned out to be… less than useful (splinters included). And yes, somehow we wrapped things up talking about footing, because only horse people could go from pipe cleaners to footing in one conversation and have it make sense.
This episode had everything I love about these chats with Alexis: laughter, honesty, and a look into the real balancing act of being an adult amateur. Whether you’re managing motherhood, horse life, or just the chaos that comes with both, I think you’ll find something to relate to in this one
Hope you enjoy!
Love, Kelly 💋
